4 Videos That Inspired Our Amazing Week…

Note: This is a post from Adam Baker, founder of Man Vs. Debt.

We’ve had an amazing week this week (testing out a daily post schedule) and we wanted to take time out on Friday to share some amazing videos that inspired a fun week!

As it turns out, many of these videos fall into the “Do What You Love” category of things. πŸ™‚

If you enjoy inspiring round-ups like this, let us know, and we’ll do them more often!

The Happy Secret to Better Work…

Likely my favorite TED talk ever I watched just this week from Shawn Achor. Even cooler is the fact that this was a TEDx talk in Bloomington, IN (close to my hometown). πŸ™‚

It’s fast-paced, short, *hilarious*, and hits home hard. Everything I love in an inspiration speech. If you only watch one thing this weekend – make it this!

Exercising Around the World…

My good friend and fitness nerdΒ extraordinare, Steve Kamb, has spent the last 18 months of his life traveling around the world (a feat made possible by his unwavering commitment to helping thousands get in shape).

While traveling Steve maintained his fitness with bodyweight exercises in some of the most popular landmarks in the places he visited. 18 months later, we’re left with the inspiring combination of all those workouts. πŸ™‚

A Man Who Clearly *Loves* His Work…

I first saw this on Reddit, but fell in love with it immediately. It’s a simple scene featuring an man who worked for years with artifacts from the Titanic.

You can certainly tell he’s a scientific man, someone who appears extremely intelligent, but as he speaks you can feel the passion for his work just oozing out of him. Wouldn’t it be great for all of us to have this level of passion for our work (no matter what it is)? I love it!

Cello Wars Lightsaber Duel…

Joan’s inspiration for the week came from a Youtube Star Wars parody. It’s not a new video, but one her family has viewed countless times for inspiration.

The video was put together over 6 months, mostly at night after families went to bed, by just a few dedicated musicians and videographers. It now has almost 6 million views. Joan has begun following the small crew’s journey to quit their jobs and make music (and videos) full time. πŸ™‚

What article or video inspired you this week?

Which of the above videos was your favorite?

  1. Reading through the descriptions of the videos I thought, surely the TED talk will be my favorite. But I agree with Geocaching; that Titanic video! LOVELY. What a surprise. Nothing like a passion that moves you to tears. Also, doesn’t his story kind of make you think about appreciating the smaller things in life a bit more?

Thumbs-up to the idea of a roundup like this, Adam.

I was inspired this week by the Danielle LaPorte video you shared earlier – http://youtu.be/cITNveY-kig and the Caine’s Arcade video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faIFNkdq96U – the latter of which *might* have made this 9-month pregnant mama shed a couple tears. πŸ™‚

  2. Baker – holy cow, this just made my day!!!! I LOVE the Ted video and will be sharing with friends and colleagues, and the fitness around the world was an inspiration. The Titantic artifacts expert made me tear up – you’re right about his obvioius passion for his work! – and the Star Wars parody made me laugh so hard I almost spit out my lunch. Thanks for a great gift on a Friday afternoon!!

And if it’s not already obvious, I vote YES for more roundups like this one!!

  3. Absolutely loved the TEDx speak! Truly put a smile on my face πŸ™‚ Oh and that older man talking about his work.. priceless (in the most pure and kind way). Thanks for sharing Adam! πŸ™‚

  4. I enjoyed all 4 videos, especially the TED talk. Very inspiring! I think it’s a great idea, and look forward to more like this πŸ™‚

  5. Loved the scientist on the Titanic video.

Felt a little bad for him because I know he’s definitely strongly bonded to his work and the Titanic but I’m glad he found that level of joy when he narrated about the experience on the fragrance.

As for the Star Wars video, WOW, that was freaking EPIC.

Really grateful for that, first time I see it! πŸ˜‰

  6. Awesome videos Adam! We especially loved the TedX talk and Steve’s RTW workout video. If this is the shape of things to come from MvD, we are stoked! Thanks for sharing…and congrats too! πŸ˜‰

  7. I just found your blog and have been enjoying checking it out. Today’s post was the first update I received and loved it! All of these videos were so great!! Thanks.

  8. Hi there Baker!

I’ve been procrastinating my budgeting process for over a year now. I found your site again (guess what, had it on my RSS reader forever, but since it always reminded me that I had to to that – I never read it since I found it) and it hit me, I was already in the process of getting off my ass and facing my financial situation, and you gave me the final push. And for that, I have to thank you very deeply! With a family, relatively low income and baby on the way, I NEEDED to do this already, but lacked the guts to face a problem I had my entire life! THANK YOU.

And to stay on topic: I loved the Titanic video. This is exactly what I need at this point in my life.

  10. What an excellent “gang of four”! I’ve already shared the TED video and Steve’s video with my readers. I haven’t watch the others yet but I’m sure they’ll be equally inspirational.
