Note: This is a post from Adam Baker, founder of Man Vs. Debt.

In Episode 4 of the Man Vs. Debt Podcast, we cover how you can “Rally Your Friends and Loved Ones.”

We’ve talked about this here on the blog before, as it’s one of the single biggest issues that holds people back.

Note: We also cover this content on the final day of Week 1 in You Vs. Debt.

What We Can Learn From The News:

At the beginning of each podcast, I cover three news stories from the past week. We attempt to have a little fun and pull out a positive nugget from each story featured. 🙂

Why having your friends and family on board is important:

  1. It’s been the #1 factor of any positive change in my life.
  2. Realizing that “the meaning of any communication is the response it elicits.”
Strategies to rally a loved one:
  1. Realize you can’t change them.
  2. Let them change organically.
  3. Start with WHY it’s important to you.
  4. Seek their input. Listen.
  5. Leverage outside influences.
  6. Lead by example.
  7. Make it a routine.

  1. As far as changing the family, I love this quote:

“Learning to accept each other’s faults – and choosing to celebrate each others differences – is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.”

  2. Yea ultimately the decision has to come from them.

Probe until you get an answer and then let them see the light.. this is how you convince you family and friends…

  3. I’m interested to add your podcast to my subscriptions but I don’t use iTunes. Will you consider adding podcast RSS feeds for non-iTunes subscriptions? That would be helpful if you want to spread your podcast.

  4. I love the strategies for rallying a loved one. I am going to put these into use now! Listening is extremely important, especially when dealing with sensitive topics like a relationship with Christ or finances.

  5. congrats on episode 4… they (whoever that is) say if you get past 4 you’ll have higher success of continuing.

And congrats on all the downloads. My wife and I just finished episode #5 (we do weekly) and it’s amazing at how or where people find these to download. Mostly AppleCore Media, but it’s cool.
