Personal Update: Still No Internet & Stuff I Love!

in MvD Updates

Baker with no internet

This is how I feel about still not having internet at our new apartment.

I’ve had an account manager at Orcon Broadband all but pinky-swear a technician will be out tomorrow by 3 p.m.  If they can’t get it working, prepare yourself for the rant of the century next weekend.

I wonder if I can rank in the top 3 Google search results for “Orcon” with a post titled, Orcon Broadband Sucks, Avoid at All Costs… I’m fairly confident I can.  We just might get to see…  mwhahahaha.

I have no desire to spend any more time or money in a crowded internet cafe, surrounded by the smell of 18-25 year old men who haven’t showered in several days.  I spent the greater part of a decade in this role and I’m ready to move on.  :-)

Orcon…  GIVE ME INTERNET PLEASE!

Endorsed Products

In better news, I finally finished up my ‘endorsed’ products page.  These are products that I’ve decided are valuable enough (or that I use enough) to affiliate with.  There are personal finance tools, information products, and stuff I use to run the blog.  Some are free, others cost money.

You know how it works. If you are in the market to use or purchase something that’s one my list, I’d appreciate you using my affiliate links.  It doesn’t increase the cost, but I get a small percentage or referral bonus.  I plan on keeping the number of endorsements small and meaningful.  I won’t be doing mass ‘reviews’ or generic affiliate programs.

Check out the ‘People, Services, & Products I Love‘ page and let me know your feedback!

Transparency Updates!

Thanks for all the awesome feedback on the two transparency projects this week!

Based on your feedback, PocketSmith and I have already updated my ‘Finances‘ page with some new features.  First, they’ve added a column for New Zealand expenses showing the conversion into USD.  This way everyone (including me) can easily compare the cost between the two countries.

Also, PocketSmith has added an ‘Account Balance‘ at the bottom of the transactions list.  This number is the combination of any savings, checking, and cash.  So the number you see, is the total amount we actually have.  Our U.S. account + our N.Z. account is everything we have!  :-)

Many of you have asked about more information on our debt and how we are approaching it.  I’ll be working on that information this week.  Also, sometime within the next month, we’ll be giving everyone full access to my PocketSmith account, meaning you’ll be able to see how well we are planning ahead, sort expenses by category, and more.  I’ll keep you updated!

The week ahead!

We are going to move away from features and pages this week and back towards traditional content.  I’ll be revisiting (in more complete form) the reasons why we don’t have a single credit card and will be providing a inspirational resource later in the week.

If you like funny and controversial post titles…  you’re going to love tomorrow!  :-)   See you then!
