Neat Online Tools From ING Plus Dave Ramsey’s Town Hall For Hope Tonight!

in People & Products

Couple things, I wanted to make sure to let everyone know about.  First, this morning I took part in an ING roundtable phone call, along with several other bloggers.  The point of the call was to let us know about some different online tools they were developing and to get our feedback on what we felt they could do better.

ING’s Different Online Tools

We talked about ING Compare Me, which has had over 250,000 hits in the short time it’s been available.  I gave it a little test run.  I didn’t do so well compared to my peers, especially since we’ve been focusing on debt elimination rather than retirement savings!  I thought it was neat how they took into account a lot more than just your age, race, and income levels.

Also, today they redesigned their tool that allows you to calculate “your number,” or rather the amount you’ll need to retire.  You’ve probably seen the commercial with the people carrying around their big orange number.  It’s really simple, but it’s got a cool design!  My number was $1,587,478!  ING Your Number

When discussing what things we would like to see, I added that it would be neat for them to design an interactive tool for finding room in your budget.  That or one for paying off your debts faster, so that you could have more money for retirement! They seemed to genuinely appreciate the feedback, which was cool.

Dave Ramsey’s Town Hall For Hope Is Tonight!

If you don’t have any plans for tonight you should definitely consider heading out to this event.  Chances are you’ve already heard a lot about this on the internet, but if you haven’t here are some additional resources.

It would be nice if the ING result showed various numbers depending on how long you expected to live (i.e. $X for 20 years, $Y for 30 years).

Oddly, if I divide my number by the number of retirement years, it’s substantially higher than the desired annual retirement income – about 1.5X. Maybe this is intentional to account for people underestimating? Or maybe it’s adjusting for inflation during the retirement years?

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll make sure to pass on your suggestion about showing different numbers based on life expectancy. I know they will appreciate it!

I love the ING orange account…k, so that’s random, right?

Anywho, my husband is going to the Dave Ramsey Townhall meeting! Can’t wait to hear all about it! (Except that I’m working towards saving towards a new blog design and I don’t want to be gazelle intense when it comes to paying for a designer!!!) :)

Neat tools! I think the Compare Me tool needs a bit more work, though. There were a couple of analysis that were a bit odd. Like I put down I carry 0 balances, and the analysis wording suggested that I wasn’t like my peers, and needed to do more work. I don’t think that’s what they really meant. :) Or do they? Conspiracy theorists want to know!

I’m not sure what the problem was with the wording. I had several categories that were 0, as well, but didn’t really look at the wording close enough to remember. I’ll be sure to forward it onto the ING contact, so they can take a look! Thanks!
