Announcing ‘Guest Post Week’: Taking Submissions!

in MvD Updates

Today, I have a special announcement!

Next week we are going to be testing out the first ever Guest Posting Week!

Many of you have come to realize that since I’ve adopted a Monday, Thursday, Sunday schedule that I’ve featured very, very few guest posts.

To be honest, I’m not against featuring other writers and perspectives here, I’ve just felt I have had a lot to say lately! :-)

I’ll be taking open submissions up until this Saturday at Noon EST time. At this point I will narrow all the submission down to 5 and post one a day Monday through Friday. I’ll be looking at featuring a variety of perspectives and hopefully turning everyone onto a couple new voices.

Even if you don’t have your own blog, I hope you’ll consider offering up some content if you have a desire!  I’d love to be able to feature some stuff from ‘regular’ readers, as well!

If you’d like to submit a post to be considered, here’s what you need to know:

  • Do NOT be offended if you aren’t selected. I’m expecting a decent amount of submissions.  If you are going to be offended if not chosen, please don’t submit!  I’m not selecting the ‘best’ 5 necessarily, but instead will be striving to provide some variety and mix it up a bit.  By the way, I consider many of you friends and won’t be playing favorites!  :-)
  • There are NO guidelines or content suggestions. I’m willing to consider different types of posts, different perspective than my own, short, long, fat, skinny, video, 4k words, 200 words.  I’m not setting any restriction or suggesting anything.  Hopefully, you know my style.  I like to approach topics in unique and passion ways.  I’m also fairly diverse with what I’m willing to share.
  • E-mail: Submit them to Baker @ ManVsDebt . com
  • Format: Do not submit a word document.  I hate Word.  You can send me the post in an e-mail, link to your google doc, or included a text file with the <html> if you’d fancy.
  • Picture: You don’t have to submit a photo to be considered.  I’m willing to help find something if needed.  Also, by now you know what I like.  Big, fat cool stuff at the very top.  Either that or none usually (as today).
  • Links: External links (to your site or elsewhere) are cool where they are EXTREMELY applicable.  This is especially true for content that I don’t regularly cover here on MvD.  If you want bonus points, you can put in my own internal links where appropriate, too.  I always do this when guest posting for others (tip for submitting to the bigger guys).  Don’t go overboard.  :-)
  • Byline: I’d prefer to write the intro to the post.  I’ll make it good and based on my own thoughts on your site or writing (if you have one).  Please feel free to put a couple bullet points in about specific posts, content, projects, or talking-points you like to promote.  I get promotion, I really do.  I’ll pimp you in my own way.  :-)
  • Original: Don’t rework an existing post or send me something that’s already been published.  If you are going to submit, submit something original for the other readers.
  • Outline or Full Post: Normally, I’d suggest just sending an outline first, but since we are on a very limited time frame, I’ll need full posts (just take a gamble if you can’t choose).
  • Deadline: Saturday, 10/24/09, Noon EST.  I’ll contact the winners Saturday evening after reviewing submissions with any edits and or suggestions.  If selected I’ll work to make it a great fit for the site!

Why?

First, to provide a change of pace and give some limited exposure to a couple other great writers and readers in our community.

Second, I’m taking the week off.  (Most of it anyway).  I won’t be responding to comments nearly as much.  I won’t be returning the majority of non-time sensitive e-mails (like normal).  I won’t be on any radio shows, or even on Twitter very much…  I know, shocking.

I will be deeply buried into finishing up the content of the forthcoming e-book!

We are excited to get this project out as soon as possible (by mid-November hopefully).  Yes…  I said we. I’ve decided to incorporate the concepts into a joint project with another blogger.  Think big.  I guarantee you’re familiar with him/her.  But, that’s an announcement for another day.  ;-)

I appreciate you supporting me while I pour myself into this project.  I hope you’ll treat the guest posters as brilliantly have you’ve treated me recently!

If you have any questions about potential submissions or how the week will play out that aren’t addressed above… leave them in the comments.  I look forward to your submissions!

I had to look at the post date twice when I saw the deadline listed as 10/14/09. Do you mean 10/*24*/09?

Yes, thank you… fixed.

That is a great idea, it gives others the floor, and gives you time to focus on your project. It’s a win win for sure. I may think about sending something in.

Wow, totally missed this post somehow (and the deadline, it would seem). Will you be continuing your Guest Posting Weeks, or should I cry softly into my hands over having missed my one opportunity?

If you don’t use an article, do you plan to keep them in your queue for future use, or releasing the content back to the original author? If my submission doesn’t make the original five, I’ll avoid using it if you plan to keep all submission in your “hopper”, but if you don’t plan to do this, I’ll pop it onto my blog.

Not a big deal either way – I definitely plan to submit something if I have the time.

It depends on what you’d like. In the far majority of cases, I’ll let you know ASAP so you can use the content elsewhere. The normal ‘guest’ queue can last for months and months. That’s not really fair to everyone.

It’ll be a case by case basis. ;-)

Great question by @Kosmo. I’d love to know the answer, but will be submitting regardless.

But who will be this mystery co-author…hanging in suspense. I take it that you will be informing everyone again on what the heck and ebook so I won’t ask and just wait for the answer.

Proper English was never my “strong” area.

Finishing up my submission now. It should be in your inbox in a few.
Miguel, I know who it is, and I’ll give you a hint, there is a clue on Baker’s blog. That is all. :)
