To add to “right side of the river’s” comment, I just wanted to say that the Muslim comment was pretty insensitive. It’s important to realize that the people who attacked on 9/11 were extremists, not everyday Muslims. Let’s not lump everyone into this group of “terrorists” and spread more hate than is already out there.

as a Muslim, reading the part about your reaction to the travel prayer made me very uncomfortable. just wondering, do you also ‘feel weird’ traveling with other Muslims on a plane?

This is funny, we were both commenting on the ZH suggestions site and thought I’d check out your link. I lived on Waiheke for almost 10 years and know Angie and her kids:) Hilarious. We’ve now moved to Australia via Costa Rica – bit of a long way round but brilliant experience. I’m also trying to help people live their dream with my blog and share my travel adventures in the hope it’ll inspire others to do the same. Certainly enjoyed reading about your adventures. Well done for getting out there and doing it. NZ is a fab country and they Kiwis are wonderful. We only moved to Aus for hotter weather. Good luck with all your plans. Another great post.

One thing I found about Australia (and apparently it’s also true of NZ) is that while they don’t see the same temperatures as in Canada and upper US – they also don’t have central heating so in fact, I would say they are a lot tougher when it comes to cooler weather.
