I have almost no clue how I just stumbled onto your blog, but I saw your banner and thought "wow- that looks like Maggie Island". I even showed it to my husband to ask him the same thing. Then I saw that you backpacked in Australia... and in Townsville! No way! I lived there for about two years and LOVED it. My husband (then boyfriend) and I traveled back over there for a bit and tried to bike around Maggie Island-- big mistake. Those hills are huge. Hitchhiking worked much better.

Anyway. I just got really excited to see the sites of Townsville. Not many people know about that city-- Cairns and Brisbane get more attention.

Cool to read about what you're doing. Just thought I'd drop a comment!

Just found your blog, and it's fantastic. My wife and I backpacked Oz and NZ when we were "old" (25) and before we had our now 2-year-old. It's awesome to see people that are backpacking with children – it gives me hope!

This is your first post I've read, but will be following up on your OZ and NZ adventures, because I love and miss those countries so much.

And Magnetic Island is beautiful too. We only spent one night in 'Townie' but enjoyed it as well.

I just love how adventurous you guys are, especially with a baby. I entered into hyper protective mode and the thought of staying with strangers would not fly. Good luck in your adventure, New Zealand is awesome!

Just letting you know that we appreciate detail of these posts. Makes me want to visit. I have wanted to visit New Zealand for a long time and my wife wants to go to Australia.

Hopefully providence will take over for your visa, Baker.

can completely relate to expensive aussie taxis. yikes. couple other cities too. i think certain cultures are high taxi fare cultures and others are low taxi fare people. aussies def the former.

really cool to hear about how open and welcoming they were. inspiring. sparks some faith in humanity. pass that on to them. they reignited some of my faith in humanity. lol. haha. def good to see all round tho.

your trip looks all-round incredibly beautiful.

half-hill half mountain looks awwwsome :) like a baby mountain. guess i'm just used to colossal mega mountains. i live in cape town so we've got table mountain. which is huuuge. baby mountain hill hybrid is laughable in comparison :)
